Improving My Skin Health

From the time I was a teenager to only a few years ago, I suffered with terrible skin. Some parts of my face were dry and flaky, while other sections were oily and covered in pimples. I wanted to fix my skin problems once and for all, which is why I made an appointment with a dermatologist a few years ago. After meeting with my skin doctor, he evaluated my skin and helped me to figure out what to do to fix the issue. My dermatologist helped me to overcome years of trouble with my skin, and I want everyone to know about my successes. Check out this website to see how a dermatologist might be able to help you.

Experiencing Hair Loss? See A Dermatologist To Get Help

Blog

If you are experiencing hair loss, you should make an appointment with a dermatologist. They can help determine why you are losing your hair and offer different treatment options. Keep reading for some causes they may find and the treatment they may offer.

Causes of Hair Loss

There are many things that can cause hair loss. It can be due to aging, or you may have a family history of hair loss. This is also known as androgenic alopecia, which can cause both male and female pattern hair loss. It generally starts gradually and gets worse over time. For example, you may notice a receding hairline in the beginning but then start to get bald spots or your hair may become much thinner.

Hair loss can also be caused by hormonal changes and other medical conditions. Hormonal changes could be due to pregnancy, thyroid problems, and menopause. There is a medical condition known as alopecia areata, which can cause hair loss in both men and women.

If you are losing hair and have an itchy scalp, you could have a scalp yeast infection or another type of infection. There are some medications that may have a side effect of hair loss, which may be medications for things like high blood pressure, heart problems, depression, arthritis, and cancer.

Going through a stressful event can cause temporary hair loss and hair thinning and may last for a few months or until you feel better. After this, your hair should grow back on its own.

Hair Loss Treatment

Once the dermatologist determines why you are losing hair, they will develop a treatment plan. The dermatologist may need to do a scalp biopsy or a blood test to check hormone levels or vitamin deficiencies.

There are shampoos the dermatologist may prescribe to help with hair loss. This shampoo can often be purchased over the counter and is available in foam or liquid form. With this, it usually takes a few months for the hair to grow back. The doctor may prescribe oral medications to help with hair loss.

Another option you have is hair transplant surgery. During the surgery, the dermatologist removes hair from another part of your head and transplants this hair to the bald area. You may have an area that has thicker hair that would not make a difference if some of the hair was taken. This procedure is painful so you will be given sedation medication to help with the pain.
